Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act (Chapter 33)

As of August 2009, the option now exists for career service members to transfer some or all of their Post 9-11 GI Bill benefits to their dependents. Before a dependent can apply for these benefits, the service member must apply with the Department of Defense for a transfer of eligibility (TEB). You can complete the application online with U.S. Department of Defense.

Complete UF Paperwork

Complete the UF Enrollment Certification Request.

Student's completing this form before the fee payment deadline will be placed on tuition deferment. It is the student's responsibility to ensure tuition and fees are paid by the deadline.


Submit copies to our office

Submit a copy of the certificate of eligibility to the Veterans Services Office.


Check with the Office of Admissions

Ensure copies of official transcripts from all previous institutions attended have been submitted to the UF Office of Admissions. This includes a copy of your Joint Services Transcript.

Dependents Educational Assistance (Chapter 35)

The Dependents Educational Assistance Program (DEA) provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans (Chapter 35). You must be the spouse, son or daughter of:

  • A veteran who died or is permanently and totally disabled as the result of a service-connected disability. The disability must arise out of active service in the Armed Forces.
  • A veteran who died from any cause while such permanent and total service-connected disability was in existence.
  • A service member missing in action or captured in line of duty by a hostile force.
  • A service member forcibly detained or interned in line of duty by a foreign government or power.
  • A service member who is hospitalized or receiving outpatient treatment for a service connected permanent and total disability and is likely to be discharged for that disability.

Apply online with VonApp and Form 22-5490 for first time using VA benefits or Form 22-5495 if transferring benefits from another institution.

UF Student Continuing With Benefits

This information is for those who have been enrolled as a UF student for more than one semester and are continuing with VA educational benefits.

Fill out UF Enrollment Certification Request

Complete the UF Enrollment Certification Request every term you are requesting to utilize your VA educational benefits. This form is available online one month before the beginning of every term. If you need to update any of the information on the form after it has been submitted, contact the Veterans Services office. Do not submit an additional form.
